ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY

EdTrust is seeking a Government Affairs Manager I to join its Partnerships and Engagement team. This role will join a staff committed to fulfilling our mission of closing opportunity gaps that disproportionately affect students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.

The Government Affairs Manager supports EdTrust’s federal advocacy across P–12 and higher education. Working under the direction of senior staff, the Government Affairs Manager I tracks and analyzes federal policy developments; drafts issue briefs, letters, and talking points; and helps plan and staff meetings with partner organizations and federal stakeholders (including congressional offices, the U.S. Department of Education, and the White House). The role also coordinates updates to EdTrust’s state and national teams—maintaining trackers, preparing summaries, and ensuring colleagues have timely, actionable information in their issue areas.

This role, available immediately, is based in our Washington, DC office and is eligible for telework for up to 3 days per week per our current policy. The Government Affairs Manager reports to the Senior Manager, Government Affairs.

ABOUT THE MANAGER I ROLE

The responsibilities and objectives for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assist both the Senior Manager, Government Affairs and the Director of Government Affairs in managing and executing effective legislative and regulatory strategies to advance P-12 and higher education policy priorities
Track, organize, and share information across the organization on governmental actions, procedures, and opportunities for EdTrust to educate and persuade policy professionals working in Congress, the executive branch, other organizations, state-level advocates, and the general public
Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Government Affairs, the Director of Government Affairs, and EdTrust’s policy teams to develop appropriate responses to legislative and regulatory proposals, and, working with the Communications team, produce collateral for a variety of audiences
Represent EdTrust’s positions publicly and on Capitol Hill, with the administration, and in other professional venues
Coordinate and advance legislative work with partner organizations and Hill offices
Provide support to state and local equity advocates with whom EdTrust is partnered, as well as colleagues across EdTrust offices, on legislative and regulatory matters
Stay current and knowledgeable on organizational priorities and recent research from EdTrust and our partners
Collaborate with content teams to ensure that EdTrust policy positions can be advanced through legislative and regulatory efforts

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate with possess the following qualifications and experience

At least a bachelor’s degree in education, public policy, political science, or a related field
At least 4 years of related work experience, with a preference for congressional experience and/or experience working to develop and implement legislative and regulatory strategy
Strong familiarity with federal education policy and/or advocacy
Deep understanding of the federal budget/appropriations process

COMPENSATION

This position falls in Level C of our salary structure. The new hire salary range for this position is $69,336-$86,670. New hire offers are rarely offered at the top of this range and are commensurate with skills, experience and internal equity.
