Job Title: Director, Feminist Grantmaking
Location: Canada - Remote
Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 CAD per year
We are seeking a Director, Feminist Grantmaking to join the Community Initiatives team. This position reports to the Vice President, Community Initiatives. The Director, Feminist Grantmaking is responsible for leading the implementation of the Canadian Women’s Foundation’s grantmaking strategy to advance gender justice in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Feminist Granting Grantmaking Strategy & Execution
- Develop and refine the Foundation’s feminist grantmaking strategy, ensuring alignment with strategic plans.
- Lead the execution of funding cycles, applications, selection criteria, and fund distribution.
- Ensure equity-driven, feminist, trust-based philanthropic principles in funding systems.
- Innovate funding models (multi-year grants, participatory grant-making, capacity building initiatives).
- Collaborate with leadership to align funding with donor requirements and available resources.
- Manage program budgets in collaboration with grant managers.
Systems for Grant Applications, Reporting, and Evaluation
- Develop and maintain accessible systems for grant applications, selection, and reporting.
- Implement feminist approaches to evaluation.
- Evaluate and track KPIs, equity benchmarks, and outcomes for funding accountability and continuous learning.
Sector Engagement & Thought Leadership
- Represent feminist grantmaking at conferences, roundtables, and discussions.
- Shape conversations on feminist philanthropy and equitable funding practices in Canada.
- Collaborate with donors and external stakeholders to showcase funding impact.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise 5 direct reports including grant managers.
- Foster leadership and expertise among team members.
Qualifications
Education:
- University degree (social sciences/humanities) or equivalent skills/lived experience.
Experience:
- 7-10 years in grantmaking/philanthropy leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of feminist philanthropy and equity-focused grantmaking.
- Experience managing large-scale funding programs and systems development.
Skills:
- Strategic thinking and foresight.
- Proficiency in feminist, decolonial evaluation methods and funding systems.
- Leadership and technical capabilities (Blackbaud, Microsoft 365).
- Bilingualism in English and French preferred.

- Start Date: ASAP with 3-month probation.
- Location: Remote, hybrid, or in-office (Toronto HQ).

- Salary: $85,000 - $105,000.
