Leading VVOB’s new global governance model
VVOB recently decided to direct its focus completely to Africa. We will be setting up an African autonomous legal entity next to the Belgian legal entity. Both organisations will share a global office that will coordinate programme activities in the partner countries.
As General Director you will ensure that the new governance model will be implemented early 2027. You will work closely with the current Board of Directors to do this. Furthermore, you will play an important role in setting up a newly constituted Board of Directors with members from Belgium and Africa.
You will lead the shared global office. This will require frequent traveling between the Belgian and African entity.
Position in the organisation
The General Director reports to the Board of Directors and General Assembly. You will be in the lead for the global organisation, managing direct and indirect reports. You coordinate the activities of the Global Leadership Team (including Global Programme Director, Global HR Director, Global Finance Director and Global Communication & Engagement Director) and the Extended Global Leadership Team (incl. GLT and Country Programme Managers).
Result areas of this position
- You hold the end responsibility of all VVOB operations and are accountable for key results in all areas, including programme operations, finances, human resources and internal organisation.
- As a leader and role model, you develop and inspire strong teams and you offer leadership advice, guidance and support towards them to achieve results.
- You ensure a smooth transition to a new global governance model aiming at improving equity within the organisation and at increasing donor opportunities for the organisation.
- You are responsible for strategy and policy development at global organisational level. To do this, you engage internal stakeholders in a proactive way ensuring shared leadership throughout the organisation.
- You are actively involved in the further development of the business at global level, identifying the landscape of both partnerships and competition and seeking new funding opportunities amidst a context of declining funding by governments. Partnerships with international foundations are increasingly becoming more important.
- You develop and maintain a network with relevant government, funding, technical and network partners and other internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, you represent VVOB towards them.
- You ensure a smooth cooperation with the governing bodies of the organisation.
- You ensure a safe environment in which all staff can thrive and develop themselves.
