About Caribou
Caribou is a global consultancy partnering with ambitious organizations to reimagine and deliver impact in a digital age.
We design strategies, manage funds, uncover insights, and measure impact.
Trusted by leading foundations, companies, and governments, we support our clients to deliver programs that mobilize and shape technology to achieve their impact goals while uncovering new pathways to positive change.
As part of a digital transformation, we strengthen livelihoods and shared prosperity, promote inclusive business models and technologies, ensure the fairness and safety of future digital systems, and enable bold climate action.
Our expertise spans many technologies - earth observation, AI, digital financial services, digital identity, and digital public goods, and many broader global challenges, from gender inequity and forced migration to the youth boom and isolation of rural areas. The intersections are many, but so too are the opportunities for progress.
Our vision is a world in which digital economies are inclusive and sustainable.
About the role
We are seeking a Manager, Measurement & Impact to join Caribou's Measurement & Impact (M&I) team, supporting a portfolio of philanthropic programs across Africa. This role sits at the heart of Caribou’s strategic, participatory, and systems-informed approach to measurement—blending rigorous evaluation with deep listening, reflection, and learning.
Working in partnership with African researchers, youth networks, and philanthropic foundations, the Manager will help design and implement right-fit measurement, learning, and evaluation approaches. These approaches support adaptive decision-making, elevate diverse voices (particularly young Africans), and strengthen the ecosystem of knowledge on youth livelihoods.
Thematically, the work spans the intersections of youth livelihoods with MSME finance, agriculture and climate, education, and the digital economy. The Manager will collaborate with a team of M&I and thematic experts to advance strategic reviews, learning partnerships, evidence syntheses, and innovative evaluation activities.
This is a multifaceted and relational role, requiring strong evaluation design skills, experience with participatory and mixed-methods approaches, and the ability to support inclusive learning and insight generation across partners
Specific responsibilities of the Manager may include the following:
Measurement, evaluation and learning
- Co-design and implement right-fit measurement systems and learning frameworks, from proposal stage through implementation and reflection.
- Lead or support the development of theories of change, meaningful indicators, and mixed-methods evaluation designs that foreground participant experience and context.
- Apply participatory and systems-informed approaches, with an emphasis on centering voices and thick data methods (e.g., interviews, reflections, arts-based or narrative inquiry).
- Lead the delivery of annual impact reports, and learning-centred evaluations across countries and regions.
- Contribute to evidence synthesis and generation of strategic insights through Caribou’s knowledge systems.
Stakeholder engagement and coordination
- Cultivate collaborative relationships with Foundation staff, research partners, youth networks, and country-level program teams.
- Facilitate learning and reflection sessions that translate evidence into strategy, and foster shared ownership of insights.
- Represent Caribou and the consortium in learning convenings, working groups, and thought leadership spaces.
Business development, team contribution & knowledge sharing
- Support new project design and proposal development by shaping MEL workstreams and approaches.
- Contribute to Caribou’s internal learning on participatory and innovative measurement practices, including playbooks and knowledge products.
- Collaborate with other Caribou team members and expert consultants to meet evolving project needs.
- Contribute to external blogs, events, or publications that share lessons and influence field practice.
Candidate profile
We are looking for someone who brings both technical excellence and humility to their evaluative practice.
- At least 7 years of professional experience in measurement, evaluation, and learning, particularly in international development or applied research contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement right-fit, mixed-methods evaluation systems, including participatory, developmental, or utilization-focused approaches.
- Strong qualitative skills and experience generating thick data insights from interviews, focus groups, and narrative methods, with the ability to combine these with quantitative metrics.
- Experience working in or alongside African research teams, youth networks, or local knowledge institutions.
- Proven ability to lead co-creation and facilitation processes that result in shared learning and practical insights.
- Excellent writing and synthesis abilities, with a track record of producing accessible, insight-rich deliverables for funders, partners, and practitioners.
- Experience working across at least one thematic area such as youth livelihoods, MSME finance, agriculture, education, or digital economy.
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, with experience coordinating with funders, and partners.
- Ability to operate effectively in diverse, cross-cultural, and remote working environments.
Desirable attributes
- Experience supporting equity-centred, feminist, or decolonial MEL approaches.
- Comfort with ambiguity, iteration, and collaborative sensemaking.
