As the Constanter Investment Office (IO), we manage a diversified portfolio of investments that allow for the philanthropic work of the Brenninkmeijer family business owners. JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Responsible Investing Officer to lead and enhance our responsible investment initiatives. This role involves developing and updating responsible investing policies, assessing investment risks and returns, conducting in-depth research across various asset classes, and effectively managing relationships with diverse stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in investing, responsible investing and/or weighing these issues, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to navigate complex, multifaceted environments.
Responsible Investment Policy Development and Management:
- Create and periodically update responsible investing policies that align with the values of our stakeholders, Catholic Social Teachings and our theory of change considering our organization’s size and resource constraints.
- Ensure policies reflect best practices and are adaptable to evolving responsible investing standards.
Research and Recommendation:
- Conduct thorough research to recommend responsible investing approaches tailored to each asset class and strategy.
- Provide detailed analyses on specific issues and positions to inform investment decisions.
Investment Assessment and Strategy Implementation:
- Develop rankings and determine appropriate actions, such as exclusion or engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with Investment Teams to implement these strategies effectively.
- Support Investment Teams in evaluating the risk and return profiles of individual and grouped investments.
Policy Interpretation and Decision Support:
- Navigate complex policy areas, making informed judgment calls, occasionally in time-sensitive situations.
- Balance varying stakeholder beliefs and practical limitations to achieve optimal outcomes without compromising on responsible investing principles.
Stakeholder Engagement and Management:
- Engage with and manage multiple stakeholders, including family donors, philanthropies (Porticus, Laudes), governance bodies (Philanthropy Committee, Investment Committee, Board), and the Investment Office.
- Synthesize diverse perspectives to generate actionable insights and plans.
RI Landscape Analysis and Public Relations:
- Stay abreast of the continually evolving responsible investing landscape, considering global cultural interpretations and regional variations.
- Provide guidance on public relations considerations related to responsible investing activities.
Liability and Risk Advisory:
- Analyse and advise on potential liabilities arising from responsible investing activities, considering changing political climates and regulatory developments (e.g., shifts in U.S. DEI policies, evolving EU regulations).
In this role you will report to the Chief Investment Officer.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience (10 years+) in investing and responsible investing preferably at asset-owning institutions with full costs of capital. Those with an investing background and a deep interest in pursuing it responsibly will also be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering and/or Natural Sciences, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
