Senior Manager, Measurement & Impact
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates within +/- 3 hours GMT)
Reports to: Director, Measurement & Impact
Job type: Full-time
Start date: January / February 2026
About the role
The Senior Manager will join the Measurement & Impact (M&I) team. In our M&I practice, we believe our measurement, evaluation, and learning field delivers the most value as a multi-disciplinary practice of evaluative methods, design thinking, and computer science. We draw on a range of evaluative, participatory, and analytical methods and tailor them to the context rather than defaulting to a single doctrine. Our work is adaptive, evidence-led, and grounded in practical decision-use. We aim to bring rigour without rigidity—challenging conventional MEL approaches when they limit insight towards strategic decisions and compromise our values.
Our M&I services span strategy, implementation support, evidence synthesis, evaluation, and learning across a wide range of digital economy, livelihoods, financial inclusion, and climate programs.
We are seeking a Senior Manager who can lead and deliver—someone who is as comfortable overseeing a diverse project portfolio as they are designing and executing the work themselves. This role blends strategic oversight, hands-on delivery, relationship leadership, and the development of people and practice.
You’ll work closely with colleagues from across our service areas—Funds & Programs, Research & Insights, and Strategy to support the design and delivery of measurement and impact services.
Indicative responsibilities
Below are the core areas of responsibility. The balance will vary depending on the project mix, but this includes both delivery and oversight.
End-to-end project leadership and delivery
- Lead and deliver M&I projects from initial scoping through to final outputs
- Select and apply fit-for-purpose methods and approaches aligned with Caribou’s M&I practice principles.
- Hold core client relationships, including shaping scopes, managing expectations, and ensuring outputs meet our internal standards.
- Oversee project staffing and resource planning in coordination with the M&I team leadership and other Project Leads.
- Step into hands-on delivery when needed—for example, shaping measurement approaches, facilitating learning or sensemaking processes, synthesising evidence, developing frameworks or models, producing insights or communication outputs, or strengthening measurement systems.
- Ensure strong technical and editorial quality assurance across all work products.
Team leadership
- Manage and support M&I team members across your portfolio, providing day-to-day guidance, structured support, and feedback.
- Identify team strengths and gaps; inform recruitment and staffing decisions.
- Foster a team culture aligned with Caribou’s values
- Provide coaching and technical support on Caribou’s M&I approaches, tools, and ways of working.
Practice strengthening and business development
- Represent Caribou and supported projects in external forums, networks, and partnerships.
- Strengthen client relationships and identify opportunities to deepen or expand work.
- Lead and contribute to business development, proposal writing, and lead development.
- Create practice assets (e.g., briefs, methodological notes, insights products) that advance Caribou’s M&I practice through developing or updating service standards, guidance, and tools.
- Identify opportunities to test or refine new approaches to measurement within live projects.
About you
You are an experienced measurement and impact practitioner who is comfortable working across disciplines, methods, and types of evidence. You do not see yourself as one methodological identity, though you have your own strengths. You can work with qualitative, quantitative, participatory, or analytical approaches, choosing what is fit for purpose rather than defaulting to a single tradition. You are adaptive, context-led, and attentive to decision-use.
You combine strong analytical capability with excellent communication. You can frame insights clearly, shape compelling narratives, and use visuals to bring evidence to life. You care as much about how findings are understood as how they are generated.
You bring good judgment and a collaborative working style. You lead teams with clarity, build trust quickly, and create conditions where others can deliver. You navigate ambiguity pragmatically, keep work moving, and know when to shift between strategy and hands-on execution.
You are relationship-led and confident in engaging clients, partners, and stakeholders. You work well across diverse cultural and organisational contexts, approaching your work with sensitivity, humility, and awareness of power dynamics. You are comfortable in distributed teams and communicate proactively across time zones.
You value learning, your own and others’. You are curious about new approaches, open to feedback, and able to adapt to a shared practice approach. You respect the need for consistency and standards in client-facing work, while also contributing ideas that strengthen our teams and practice.
Essential experience
- 10+ years working across measurement, evaluation, learning, evidence, or adjacent fields, within international development, digital economy, or impact-oriented programs.
- A strong track record leading and delivering M&I work for clients — from initial scoping and approach design through analysis, synthesis, communication, and final outputs.
- Demonstrated ability to work across diverse methods (qualitative, quantitative, participatory, systems-oriented, analytical), selecting and adapting approaches to context, feasibility, and decision-use.
- Excellent capability in insight communication, including narrative framing, synthesis, visualisation of data and concepts, and developing clear, compelling outputs for different audiences.
- 5+ years leading and developing teams, with experience managing performance, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth across remote or multi-country contexts.
- Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder or multi-disciplinary projects, with the judgement to navigate ambiguity and shifting needs.
- Strong client engagement skills, including scope shaping, expectation management, and aligning work with strategic decision points.
Preferred experience
- Experience shaping opportunities and contributing to business development, including developing approaches, methods, scopes, and proposals.
- Background in strategy, consulting, or similarly fast-paced, client-facing environments where analytical clarity, structured thinking, and high-quality communication are core expectations.
- Experience representing organisations externally — through speaking, writing, facilitation, or contributing to professional networks and communities of practice.
- Familiarity with sectors relevant to Caribou’s work, such as digital financial services, MSME growth, digital transformation, climate and clean energy, agri-food systems, workforce development, or digital platforms.
